Tyler Perry

National champion

Above, Tyler Perry, a fifth-grader at Croswell Elementary, holds his trophy after winning the U.S. Army Midwest Nationals Wrestling Tournament in Bloomington Illinois on July 12. He pinned his way through the bracket including the champion from Iowa in the finals with one second left on the clock to win the 85-pound weight class. Perry, who finished second at Nationals last year in Florida, wrestled for the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) team Michigan middle school national team this spring. He accompanied the team to the Middle School National Duals in Iowa as their 80-pound alternate. He is a member of the Romeo Wrestling Club and has competed in seven states last year. He trains year round in Michigan and Ohio.
